Check a chart before you deploy

Read the chart version and the application version from the published chart, then render the release with your own values before you deploy.

Use the chart metadata as the compatibility source for a deployment. The chart version identifies the Helm package. The appVersion field identifies the application version that the chart deploys by default.

Read the published metadata

Read the version from the registry, not from a document:

helm show chart oci://registry-1.docker.io/lerianstudio/midaz-helm

The command prints the current version and appVersion. Replace midaz-helm with any other chart name.

Render the release before you deploy

Pin the version you tested, then render the release with the values you intend to use:

CHART_VERSION=replace-with-chart-version
helm template midaz oci://registry-1.docker.io/lerianstudio/midaz-helm \
  --version "$CHART_VERSION" -n midaz -f values.yaml

To read the full default values of that chart version:

helm show values oci://registry-1.docker.io/lerianstudio/midaz-helm --version "$CHART_VERSION"

Do not combine an arbitrary application image with an unrelated chart version. Test the rendered release and its dependency configuration in a non-production environment before you upgrade production.
