Regenerate MFA Recovery Codes

Issues a fresh set of recovery codes and INVALIDATES the previous set immediately.

⚠️ The response body IS the credential. These codes bypass every second factor, they are returned once and never again, and anyone holding one can sign in without the device. Store them where the account’s password is stored, not next to it.

Call this when the old set was used up, exposed, or lost.

The response carries Cache-Control: no-store.

Failures:

400 — MFA is not enabled on the account, so there is nothing to recover.
404 — no such user.
503 IDE-0066 — the identity provider is unavailable (unreachable, too slow to answer, or failing). Nothing about the request was wrong; retry it later.
